For its part, the entire Spanish tourism sector demands a change in model that allows it to stop depending so frequently on the sun and the beach and access less nearby source markets. The president of the Summit Shopping Tourism & Economy Organizing Committee , Juan Antonio Samaranch , has assured that "the uncertainties generated by Brexit or the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook show the need to transform the tourism model and change it to a more sustainable and seasonally adjusted one ." As he himself explained, " there is an unsustainable saturation of sun and beach tourism and we have to seek to compete with another type, long-haul. This grows at a rate of 14% compared to the traditional 1% , apart from having an expense of up to six and seven times greater. Samaranch has called for a " great Bosnia and Herzegovina Phone Number List State pact that promotes public-private collaboration to grow exponentially in attracting these tourists." As El Economista reports today , shopping tourism is experiencing a great boost in recent years in Spain . In this sense, during this first semester, the INE has recorded some very interesting provisional data. In fact, there is a strong increase, close to 14% , in arrivals of new non-European tourists to our country. Among all countries, the increase in visitors from South Korea (32.4%), Japan (28.8%), Saudi Arabia (28.9%), Mexico (15.8%), China (14.1%), Russia (13.2%), Israel (13.2%) and the US (12.8%). During 2018 , this long-haul tourism made it possible to compensate for the decline in traditional source markets for Spain, such as Germany or England. Samaranch insisted again, however, that " Spain is not capturing the market share that would correspond to it , for example, with Chinese tourism ." tourist Isabel CelaĆ” , Minister of Education and spokesperson for the acting Government, highlighted that " Spain has once again led the ranking as the most competitive country worldwide ." Furthermore, she wanted to remember that "in the first eight months of the year the number of foreign tourists has grown by 1.5% and spending by 3.2% ." Even so, she once again emphasized " the need to orient ourselves towards a more sustainable model " in the wake of phenomena such as Brexit or climate change. Ella CelaĆ” also pointed out that "there is a waste of rural areas and a digital divide that prevents many SMEs from growing." Manuel Butler , executive director of the World Tourism Organization.
